What is Web Hosting?

Web hosting, to put it simply, is where your website will sit on the internet. Most of your current files (documents, pictures, software etc) are sitting there on your personal computer/laptop. Only you can access them, right? If you wanted to show those files to other people, you’d have to send the files to those people.
Well, think of web hosting as sending your ‘files’ to a whole lot of people. Your website is the ‘file’ and essentially it’s being put up on the internet for people to view. So instead of having to send complex website files to people in order for them to be able to see your website, they’re able to simply type in your website URL and view it all there! As an example, my website URL is www.WebsiteSetup.org

Why do I need web hosting?

I pretty much covered this in the previous section, but here’s another explanation of it. Web hosting allows you to put your content up on the internet; it allows everyone to view what you upload on there, whether it’s a professional website, a blog, or just some pictures. Instead of sending files to people, it allows you to host those files online, so other people can access them. So in terms of a blog, instead of writing the documents offline and having to send them to everyone, people can simply read them online – easy.
Oh, there’s also the fact that if you had to send the documents to everyone, you wouldn’t find many people reading it! Because the internet is so open and can be accessed by anyone, it allows people all over the world to read your blog. Having web hosting means all those potential readers will be able to view your blog, even when you’re asleep.
It makes sharing content (your website) VERY easy.
As always, there’s also a down-side of using web hosting: It will cost you some money. Prices can vary a lot from $2 per month to $500 per month, but I’ll explain everything in the next paragraphs. In short, without web hosting you won’t be able to set up your website for others to read & browser. Yes, that awesome webpage that you just created will sit on your laptop/PC, but only YOU can see it. Thus, you’ll need a hosting.

What are the different types of Web Hosting? Which one should I choose?

That’s a tricky question. It all comes down to one simple question: What are you going to be using it for?
Are you setting up a business website? Running a blog? Showing a bunch of photos(thinking of making the next Instagram)?
First off, there four main hosting solutions – Shared, Dedicated, VPS and Cloud hosting.
Not only does it depend on what you need the hosting for, a lot of it depends on your budget as well. As you can imagine, shared hosting is quite a bit cheaper than dedicated hosting, so it’s up to you to weigh the pros and cons and figure out which one might be best for you.
Well, I’m about to explain the pros and cons for you, so all you really have to do is read them, and then choose one. Easy, right? Let’s do it. I even put together an infographic that perhaps gives you a better overview:

SHARED HOSTING

Prices vary from $2 to $25 (per month).
This is the most classic and most popular hosting plan along most people on the world. The main reason why people pick this plan is that they actually don’t need more than that. It’s also usually the cheapest hosting option.
It’s very similar to living with your friends in one apartment. Like sharing your kitchen facilities for making food, using one internet provider and watching one televisor.
What it means is that you’ll share all your resources with each other, such as data, CPU time, memory and disk space. If you are lucky (99% you are), you should be fine with that. However, there are some rare cases when someone is using a lot of resources and thus your site speed will go down a bit. If that’s happens, it’s usually wise to get in touch with your web hosting support and tell them your problem. If you are lucky, you’ll be moved to another “room”.

PROS:

Shared hosting is easy, to put it simply. It’s very affordable and easy to start. There’s no complications or really complex setting up. It’s considered the entry level option for people looking for hosting, since it requires the least amount of tech knowledge and financial investment.

CONS:

The issues with shared hosting however, are based around the plain fact that you don’t have control. You don’t control the server or its performance (could be seen as a plus for those of us who don’t know what the hell I’m talking about anyway), so for those of you who know server stuff, this might be a severe restriction.
Recommended hosts for shared hosting:

VIRTUAL PRIVATE SERVER (VPS) HOSTING

Prices vary from $10 to $70 (per month).
Now, VPS is very different. This one’s more like owning a condo. So you’re still sharing and playing nice with the others in your place, but you’re responsible for what happens and keeping everything patched up.
There’s a lot less sharing because there’s less people, and you have separate allowances each. The CPU time and memory are still shared by everyone, but you also have a chunk of both of those allotted just to you.

PROS:

Virtual Private Server hosting is more powerful than shared hosting, since everyone gets a nice private virtual server each. So technically, you get a nice chunk of server space etc for yourself. That’s a nice step up from the shared hosting option.
So even though technically you’re on the same physical machine as others, you have your own little space – so no sharing with others. This usually means a better performance and faster loading speeds.

CONS:

But, you’re paying for that private space. You’ll find it quite a bit more expensive than shared hosting. But if you’re looking for your own little space on the internet, VPS hosting is a good consideration.
Recommended hosts for VPS hosting:

DEDICATED HOSTING

Prices vary from $60 to $1700 (per month).
Now we’re talking. So you want to own your own house? No problem. That’s what dedicated hosting is all about. All the resources belong to you now. You don’t share resources like CPU time and memory with anyone else, and there’s no one else’s accounts on your hosting(unless you let them, of course, but that’s another post for another time).
About the cost, well you can probably find the cheapest dedicated hosting starting from $50, but this can go up to $500 as well.

PROS:

This is the most popular, and the one most entrepreneurs and people who are serious about websites use. It gives you full control. You control everything that goes on. So if you’re looking for maximum control over things, and great performance from your server, this is where you’d like to be.

CONS:

However, make sure you bring your wallet. It’s the most expensive option. And if things goes wrong, it’s on you. Call up that IT buddy of yours, because you just might need him at some point if things go south. Make sure you know what you’re letting yourself in for with dedicated hosting.
While the freedom is great, it comes with the issues of freedom; namely, your stuff is your responsibility, and no one else’s.

CLOUD HOSTING

Prices vary from $1.60 to $170 (per month).
Cloud hosting is an entirely different animal. I guess you could say it’s a little like renting. With normal hosting, you get a machine that gives you resources, like memory and CPU time. With Cloud hosting, you don’t have a machine. Your hardware is virtual, which brings a whole host of cool benefits. It’s pretty advanced and can be pretty cost efficient when compared with the other types of hosting, but it’s definitely something that is trending on 2015 and beyond.

PROS:

Of all the hosting options we’ve talked about, cloud hosting is by far the most scalable and efficient. With cloud hosting, you only pay for what you use. So for example, let’s say your blog had a fantastic month where you got double, no, triple the traffic than it usually does.
The server starts screaming because it can’t handle that much loading. With cloud computing, the server doesn’t just pack up and run. You can simply ask for more server space and bandwidth. It’s flexible, and that makes it very cost effective. Rather than paying X amount each month for an amount you may never even reach, depending on your goals, simply pay for cloud hosting and only pay for what you use.
It’s similar to pay as you go compared to a monthly phone contract. Pay for the minutes you actually use, not a big bundle that costs a lot more.

CONS:

Again, there are negatives to this option as well. It takes advanced knowledge in terms of IT, so be aware of that when considering cloud hosting. Unless you know what you’re doing, itcould get pretty confusing.
The other negative, which is widely discussed, is that cloud hosting is potentially insecure. Hotly debated, there is the consideration that your servers are all hosted in the ‘cloud’, meaning in virtual space. That could leave it open to cyber-attacks, some suggest. It’s an arguable point, one to be considered when choosing hosting.

What Is Cloud Computing?

What is the cloud? Where is the cloud? Are we in the cloud now? These are all questions you've probably heard or even asked yourself. The term "cloud computing" is everywhere.
In the simplest terms, cloud computing means storing and accessing data and programs over the Internet instead of your computer's hard drive. The cloud is just a metaphor for the Internet. It goes back to the days of flowcharts and presentations that would represent the gigantic server-farm infrastructure of the Internet as nothing but a puffy, white cumulus cloud, accepting connections and doling out information as it floats.

What cloud computing is not about is your hard drive. When you store data on or run programs from the hard drive, that's called local storage and computing. Everything you need is physically close to you, which means accessing your data is fast and easy, for that one computer, or others on the local network. Working off your hard drive is how the computer industry functioned for decades; some would argue it's still superior to cloud computing, for reasons I'll explain shortly.
The cloud is also not about having a dedicated network attached storage (NAS) hardware or server in residence. Storing data on a home or office network does not count as utilizing the cloud. (However, some NAS will let you remotely access things over the Internet, and there's at least one brand from Western Digital named "My Cloud," just to keep things confusing.)
For it to be considered "cloud computing," you need to access your data or your programs over the Internet, or at the very least, have that data synced with other information over the Web. In a big business, you may know all there is to know about what's on the other side of the connection; as an individual user, you may never have any idea what kind of massive data processing is happening on the other end. The end result is the same: with an online connection, cloud computing can be done anywhere, anytime.

Consumer vs. Business

Let's be clear here. We're talking about cloud computing as it impacts individual consumers—those of us who sit back at home or in small-to-medium offices and use the Internet on a regular basis.
There is an entirely different "cloud" when it comes to business. Some businesses choose to implement Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), where the business subscribes to an application it accesses over the Internet. (Think Salesforce.com.) There's also Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), where a business can create its own custom applications for use by all in the company. And don't forget the mightyInfrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), where players like Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and Rackspace provide a backbone that can be "rented out" by other companies. (For example, Netflix provides services to you because it's a customer of the cloud services at Amazon.)
Of course, cloud computing is big business: The market generated $100 billion a year in 2012, which could be $127 billion by 2017 and $500 billion by 2020.

Common Cloud Examples

The lines between local computing and cloud computing sometimes get very, very blurry. That's because the cloud is part of almost everything on our computers these days. You can easily have a local piece of software (for instance, Microsoft Office 365) that utilizes a form of cloud computing for storage (Microsoft OneDrive).
That said, Microsoft also offers a set of Web-based apps, Office Online, that are Internet-only versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote accessed via your Web browser without installing anything. That makes them a version of cloud computing (Web-based=cloud).

Some other major examples of cloud computing you're probably using:
Google Drive: This is a pure cloud computing service, with all the storage found online so it can work with the cloud apps: Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides. Drive is also available on more than just desktop computers; you can use it on tablets like the iPad or on smartphones, and there are separate apps for Docs and Sheets, as well. In fact, most of Google's services could be considered cloud computing: Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Maps, and so on.
Apple iCloud: Apple's cloud service is primarily used for online storage, backup, and synchronization of your mail, contacts, calendar, and more. All the data you need is available to you on your iOS, Mac OS, or Windows device (Windows users have to install the iCloud control panel). Naturally, Apple won't be outdone by rivals: it offers cloud-based versions of its word processor (Pages), spreadsheet (Numbers), and presentations (Keynote) for use by any iCloud subscriber. iCloud is also the place iPhone users go to utilize the Find My iPhone feature that's all important when the handset goes missing.
Amazon Cloud Drive: Storage at the big retailer is mainly for music, preferably MP3s that you purchase from Amazon, and images—if you have Amazon Prime, you get unlimited image storage. Amazon Cloud Drive also holds anything you buy for the Kindle. It's essentially storage for anything digital you'd buy from Amazon, baked into all its products and services.
Hybrid services like BoxDropbox, and SugarSync all say they work in the cloud because they store a synced version of your files online, but they also sync those files with local storage. Synchronization is a cornerstone of the cloud computing experience, even if you do access the file locally.
Likewise, it's considered cloud computing if you have a community of people with separate devices that need the same data synced, be it for work collaboration projects or just to keep the family in sync. For more, check out the The Best Cloud Storage and File-Syncing Services for 2016.

Cloud Hardware

Right now, the primary example of a device that is completely cloud-centric is theChromebook. These are laptops that have just enough local storage and power to run the Chrome OS, which essentially turns the Google Chrome Web browser into an operating system. With a Chromebook, most everything you do is online: apps, media, and storage are all in the cloud.

Or you can try a  ChromeBit, a smaller-than-a-candy-bar drive that turns any display with an HDMI port into a usable computer running Chrome OS.
Of course, you may be wondering what happens if you're somewhere without a connection and you need to access your data. This is currently one of the biggest complaints about Chrome OS, although its offline functionality (that is, non-cloud abilities) are expanding.
The Chromebook isn't the first product to try this approach. So-called "dumb terminals" that lack local storage and connect to a local server or mainframe go back decades. The first Internet-only product attempts included the old NIC (New Internet Computer), theNetpliance iOpener, and the disastrous3Com Ergo Audrey (pictured). You could argue they all debuted well before their time—dial-up speeds of the 1990s had training wheels compared to the accelerated broadband Internet connections of today. That's why many would argue that cloud computing works at all: the connection to the Internet is as fast as the connection to the hard drive. (At least it is for some of us.) 

Arguments Against the Cloud

In a 2013 edition of his feature What if?, xkcd-cartoonist (and former NASA roboticist) Randall Monroe tried to answer the question of "When—if ever—will the bandwidth of the Internet surpass that of FedEx?" The question was posed because no matter how great your broadband connection, it's still cheaper to send a package of hundreds of gigabytes of data via Fedex's "sneakernet" of planes and trucks than it is to try and send it over the Internet. (The answer, Monroe concluded, is the year 2040.)
Cory Doctorow over at boingboing took Monroe's answer as "an implicit critique of cloud computing." To him, the speed and cost of local storage easily outstrips using a wide-area network connection controlled by a telecom company (your ISP).
That's the rub. The ISPs, telcos, and media companies control your access. Putting all your faith in the cloud means you're also putting all your faith in continued, unfettered access. You might get this level of access, but it'll cost you. And it will continue to cost more and more as companies find ways to make you pay by doing things like metering your service: the more bandwidth you use, the more it costs.
Steve WozniakMaybe you trust those corporations. That's fine, but there are plenty of other arguments against going into the cloud whole hog. Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak decried cloud computing in 2012, saying: "I think it's going to be horrendous. I think there are going to be a lot of horrible problems in the next five years."
In part, that comes from the potential for crashes. When there are problems at a company like Amazon, which provides cloud storage services to big name companies like Netflix and Pinterest, it can take out all those services (as happened in the summer of 2012). In 2014, outages afflicted Dropbox, Gmail, Basecamp, Adobe, Evernote, iCloud, and Microsoft; in 2015 the outtages hit Apple, Verizon, Microsoft, AOL, Level 3, and Google. Microsoft had another this year. The problems typically last for just hours.
Wozniak was concerned more about the intellectual property issues. Who owns the data you store online? Is it you or the company storing it? Consider how many times there's been widespread controversy over the changing terms of service for companies like Facebook and Instagram—which are definitely cloud services—regarding what they get to do with your photos. There's also a difference between data you upload, and data you create in the cloud itself—a provider could have a strong claim on the latter. Ownership is a relevant factor to be concerned about.
After all, there's no central body governing use of the cloud for storage and services. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is trying. It created an IEEE Cloud Computing Initiative in 2011 to establish standards for use, especially for the business sector. The Supreme Court ruling against Aereocould have told us a lot about copyright of files in the cloud... but the court side-stepped the issue to keep cloud computing status quo.
Cloud computing—like so much about the Internet—is a little bit like the Wild West, where the rules are made up as you go, and you hope for the best.

Purpose: 

The purpose of this paper is to explore the conceptual meaning of cloud computing for mobile communication. The paper answers the question "what is the mobile cloud computing?" and how it relates to the concept of generic cloud computing? Design / methodology / approach: This is an explanatory conceptual document, based on literature review and exploration of possible use cases, focused on the use of mobile cloud service platform or infrastructure access . The authors exclude the discussion of the concept of traditional cloud in back office processes of telecom operators and service providers. Findings: When the cloud focuses on the sharing of resources, mobile technology focuses on pooling and sharing of resources to local cases of alternative use for mobile infrastructure, platforms and services. The paper discusses the relevant concepts and provides examples of use cases. Research limitations / implications: The value of mobile cloud solutions is still not explicit, but needs more attention. Research should focus on the relationship between the mobile cloud computing platforms and ecological systems. From the user's perspective willingness to share common resources requires more attention. Practical implications: cloud mobile computing offers the possibility of harmful applications could affect the mobile ecosystem; strengthen or weaken the business models of the key players and mobile phone providers, telecommunications operators and service providers. Originality / value: Much attention is paid to cloud computing and platform discussions, roles in the mobile cloud are scarce. This paper examines the current state of the art and a research perspective is offered.

Cloud computing and emerging IT platforms: Vision, hype, and reality for delivering computing as the 5th utility

Abstract
With significant advances in communications technology (ICT) information and in the last half century, there is an increasingly perceived vision that computing will one day be the fifth wash (after water, electricity, gas and telephony). This utility computing, like all the other four companies existing utilities, provide the basic level of service computing is considered essential to meet the everyday needs of the community. To deliver this vision, we have proposed a series of computing paradigms, of which the latest is known as cloud computing. Therefore, in this paper, we define cloud computing and provide the architecture to create clouds with resource allocation by market-oriented technologies that leverage such as virtual machines (VM). We also provide ideas on management strategies based on the market that cover both customer-driven service management and risk management computing to support service-level agreement (SLA) -oriented resource allocation resources. In addition, we reveal our first thoughts on the interconnection of clouds in the dynamic creation of exchanges of cloud and world markets. Here are some representative cloud platforms, especially in industries developed, together with our current work towards the realization of resource allocation, market-oriented cloud as made in Aneka cloud technology company. Moreover, the difference between the workload of high-performance computing (HPC) and freight services based on Internet work stands out. We also describe a goal-trading infrastructure to establish the global exchange of clouds and markets, and illustrate a case study of use of the clouds 'stored' for delivering high-performance content. Finally, we conclude with the need for convergence of IT paradigms compete to deliver our vision of the 21st century.Keywords

1. Introduction
Computing is being transformed to a model that consists of services that are consumer and delivered in a manner similar to traditional services such as water, electricity, gas, and telephone manner. In this model, users access to services according to their needs regardless of where the services or how they are delivered are housed. Several computing paradigms have promised to deliver this service computer vision and these include cluster computing, grid computing, and more recently, cloud computing. The latter term refers to infrastructure as a "cloud" of which companies and users can access applications from anywhere in the world in demand. Therefore, the computer world is rapidly transforming into software development for millions of consume as a service, rather than running on their computers.
Today, it is common to access the Internet content through independently without reference to the underlying infrastructure hosting. This infrastructure consists of data centers that are monitored and maintained throughout the day by content providers. Cloud computing is an extension of this paradigm in which the capabilities of enterprise applications are exposed as sophisticated services that can be accessed over a network. providers of cloud services are incentivized by profits to be made by charging consumers to access these services. Consumers, like companies, are attracted by the opportunity to reduce or eliminate costs associated with the "internal" provision of these services. However, since the applications in the cloud can be crucial for business operations of consumers, it is essential that consumers have guarantees from suppliers in providing services. Usually these are provided through service-level agreement (SLA) negotiated between suppliers and consumers.
Vendors like Amazon, Google, Salesforce, IBM, Microsoft and Sun Microsystems have begun to establish new data centers to host applications cloud computing in various locations around the world to provide redundancy and ensure reliability in case of site failures. Since user requirements for cloud services are varied, service providers must ensure that they can be flexible in their provision of services to users while remaining isolated from the underlying infrastructure. Recent advances in microprocessor technology and software have led to increased capacity basic hardware for running applications inside virtual machines (VM) efficiently. VM allows both isolating applications from the underlying hardware and other virtual machines, and customizing the platform to meet the needs of the end user. Providers can expose applications running in virtual machines, or provide access to virtual machines themselves as a service (for example, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud) allowing consumers to install their own applications. While convenient, the use of virtual machines leads to new challenges such as the intelligent allocation of physical resources to manage resources competing demands of users.
In addition, consumers of business services with global operations require a faster response time, and therefore save time by distributing the workload to multiple cloud applications in several places at once. This creates the need for a computing environment for interconnection and provisioning of clouds multiple domains within and across companies dynamically. There are many challenges involved in creating this kind of clouds and cloud interconnections.
Therefore, this paper analyzes the current trends in the cloud computing space and presents candidates for future improvements in this technology. This document is mainly divided into two parts. The first part analyzes the current research and development by:


    
presenting the vision of 21st century computing and describing different computing paradigms that have pledged or are promising to offer this great vision (Section 2),

    
Cloud computing distinguish from other two widely explored computing paradigms: Cluster computing and Grid computing (Section 3),

    
focusing on cloud services VM-centric and presentation of an architecture for creating market-oriented cloud using virtual machines (Section 4),

    
and provides information on management strategies based on the market that cover both customer-driven service management and management of risks to keep computational resource allocation oriented SLA (Section 5) resources,

    
revealing our first reflections on the clouds of interconnection for dynamic creation of global exchange of clouds and markets (Section 6), and

    
comparison of some representative cloud platforms, especially in industries developed along with our technology company Aneka Cloud (Section 7).
The second part presents our current work on cloud computing, including:
